The Chairman of PHRI (Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association) Jakarta chapter, Sutrisno Iwantono, explained that based on a survey, 96.7% of hotels reported declining occupancy rates. This was mainly caused by the restriction in government activities aimed for efficiency and the increase in operational costs. The imbalance in the market structure also needs reorganizing with effective tourism promotions and policies to reach the international market as foreign tourist visits to Jakarta are relatively low.
